Sunday Stills: Flowers

I love to take photos of flowers!

I decided to show off my Virgin's Bower (Clematis virginiana ) that is in full bloom.

It is beautiful and quite smelly.

This will give you some idea how massive it is.   I have wire fence (The kind that is small squares rabbit fence maybe) behind it so it finds its way up the side of the grain bin in our yard.  It has been so dry I have been watering it well once a week.

It will also grow in drifts across the ground if it doesn't find its way upwards.

This plant has some history...I was gifted two maybe three small cuttings that I rooted and planted..  My friend Faye gave them to me from Annie's house in nearby Osage.  Faye was not sure where Annie got the original seedlings...rumor had it that they came on a wagon in the late 1880's.

I knew Annie years ago...her property was surrounded by Lilac Bushes...the school bus I rode went by her place every morning and night.

More Sunday Stills can be found here.

  1. That is beautiful! It's just what need to add to the living canopy for my gazebo, but I have never heard of this variety. I will have to see if our local greenhouse can bring it in.

  2. This is such a beautiful plant. The support system with the grain bin are a wonderful combination to show off the plant. It must be a hearty plant to survive the winters up there.

  3. WOW!! Absolutely LOVE the story behind your plant. This right here is what gardening is all about. Sharing plants & making memories. You took some great shots of your plant!

I've never heard if it either. I used to be really into try to find and grow different varieties of clematis. It looks very similar to Sweet Autumn. Which I always wanted to grow, but didn't have a good spot. I don't think it gets as large as your Virgin's Bower. So pretty, I can almost smell it from here :)

  4. Awesome plant, nice photos, great story!

I love your comments! I am glad you stopped by! Connie
