Sunday Stills : Barns

The Sunday Stills Challenge this week was barns, but Ed said " Go beyond the typical barn shot."
Luckily I have good neighbors with a very old barn. I wish I knew when it was built, I should have asked. I know it is way older than me, because it is part of my childhood memories. It is the only haymow in these parts that has real steps instead of a ladder. As I stood there and looked at the roof from the inside, I could almost hear the barn builders working..heaving up the boards.. nailing.. talking.. telling stories.. :)

Bloggers Community Photo Challenge: The Great Outdoors

This is my entry in The Blogger's Community Photo Challenge: The Great Outdoors. Here in Minnesota we are still in early spring. This little creek is finally showing some green, there is still snow in the ditches where it is shady. Spring comes slow..so we must be patient! :)

Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot #33: Close Up

Carly at Ellipsis asked for a close up of something..perhaps something you never thought about photographing before. This fish net covers about one third of our grain bin..it is there for vines to crawl up. We spent the better part of a day fishing it out of the sand in a private Gulf of Mexico Beach about ten years ago. The net has some coral attached to it. I had never thought about photographing it before.

Question of the week: What kind of camera do you use most often? I use a Point and Shoot:)

Sunday Stills : Religion

The Sunday Stills Challenge this week was Religion. What a week..burning the candle at both ends toward the middle. I had some half OK shots..nothing really spoke to me..I have archives..nothing there spoke to me either. You know how it is..I took off Camera in hand.. not happy with those either..but I had taken some shots that were a little different. Finally late this afternoon I got something I liked. I know I am late..but better late than never and it is still Sunday! :)

A-Z Photo Challenge: Z is for Zebrawood

My son in law hand turned this Zebrawood bowl on his wood lathe, he gave it to us as a gift in December on our 39th Wedding Anniversary. I am constantly amazed at how thoughtful and kind he is..most definitely a keeper! Zebrawood describes any wood with light and dark stripes..but the distinctive stripes are most commonly found in the species Microberlina in West Africa. Well, we are at Z.. and Martha is taking a break until school is out, I will miss this challenge:)

How about some Red Roses! Check out more red stuff at Sunday Stills!
Happy Easter everyone! :)

Bloggers Community Photo Challenge : Spring

This is my entry for The Bloggers Community Photo Challenge: First Sign of Spring. I had to look real hard but then some snow melted and the dumb Daylilies started to poke up out of their leaf duff. They will be frozen many times yet.. but they will still bloom next July. I took this photograph this afternoon April 07, 2009 and if you couldn't tell by the snow..I live in Minnesota..where spring has not quite sprung yet :) Click on the photo to enlarge it!

Sunday Stills : Animals of Husbandry

The Sunday Stills Challenge this week was Animals of Husbandry. Photographing baby pigs was a new experience for me. The heat lamp cast a golden glow that was really picked up by the lighter colored pigs. I had to use a flash because it was dark in the hog barn.
These cute little guys are ten days old.
These guys are a little older, I believe they were about eight weeks old...pigs grow really fast!
After being in the hog barn for a while my lens fogged up and I got some obnoxious spots in my photos, I was able to crop out most of them. However there are still some in the upper left hand corner of this photo. I had been outside for quite a long time with my camera, and it was only about 20 degrees outside.

More rainbow pigs!
Can anyone say BACON! Or Hog Roast! Thanks to our neighbors for allowing me into their farrowing barn! :)

Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot #31: Footprints

How much longer must I wear my snow boots?

Here are my footprint photos, I took them in the Walmart parking lot on Wednesday April 01, 2009. Yes, some are slushy..some are snowy..it was no April Fools Joke either. Thank you Carly at Ellipsis for hosting this challenge. The question this week: Which do you find more challenging to photograph..children or animals. Animals..especially wild ones..I try my best. Kids I can usually bribe with cookies! :)

A - Z Photo Challenge : Y is for Yellow Sunflowers

I have been searching for the perfect Y photo..I had some ideas ..then we had a snow storm and I had to stay close to home. So I went to my July 2008 archives for this one..it is more cheerful than my snowy photograph would have been anyway. Martha at Menagerie hosts this challenge! :)
