Welcome to Macro Monday. This is Black Knot or Apiosporina morbosa. Or Poop on a branch. It is a common fungal disease on Prunus species..Wild Plums, and Cherries mainly. Now is the time to prune it out of your shrubs..prune 6 to 8 inches away from the knot. It will eventually kill your shrub. So you learned something new today about poop on a branch:)
Ewww. I hope I don't find any of it, but thanks for the lesson.
ReplyDeleteUmm....lovely? I have encountered this stuff before. It is evil. (there is a demented voice in my head saying "holy poop on a stick!)
ReplyDeleteOh my that is some nasty looking fungi. I've never seen it around here, so must be native to colder climes?
ReplyDeleteI was so wondering how poop got on a branch! Fungus just grows anywhere doesn't it? Great shot.
ReplyDeleteYuk!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell I am actually glad it isn't poop. I do see though one would want to prune it out of the trees.

ReplyDeleteI certainly learnt something, but with my Chinese ancestry, I wonder if it is edible. The Chinese eat a lot of fungi.
