Sunday Stills: Dogs

Since we no longer have a dog, we give our attention to my brothers dog Baxter.

This is his one year old photo.  He is a Miniature Australian Shepherd...he is a character and a work in progress.

We miss our Chance every day.

He was the best Border Collie ever.

He was my husbands best friend.

He was with us many years and was well loved.

We are "dog people" so not having a dog is hard.  We have no plan to get another dog.

Sunday Stills: Pets

Congratulations Sunday Stills you are five years old..good job Ed and Linda too!

The challenge this week was pets.

Of course that means Chance.

Chance December 8 2013

I took this just a little bit ago.  December 8, 2013 It was snowing just a bit.

Chance returning home after being the mail escort

Chance goes along to get the mail every morning and on Sundays he has to go for a long walk.  He has a routine and likes to follow it every day.

IMG_4684

He is my constant companion outdoors.

IMG_4483

He is my husbands best buddy…they do everything together.  However Chance draws the line at chainsaws and chains, if my husband gets out a chain Chance comes to the house.  One time my husband was in the truck pulling stumps and Chance didn’t like it at all.  As for the chainsaw..Chance doesn’t like trees that fall over.

Chance bored

When you see Chance a ball is never far away!

Chance is a great dog.  He was nine years old in October.  He gets a little gimpy some days in the cold weather. He is a house dog…and is well trained, if he has to go out he will pester you or whine quietly.  We love him very much and cannot imagine life without him.

Have a good week everyone!

Sunday Stills: Pets

The Sunday Stills Challenge this week was pets.  Well at this house that means some serious Border Collie time.

Chance posing

Sometimes he gets real bored with me.

What do you mean ears up

“What do you mean ears up and no frowning..who is frowning?”

IMG_3805

“Yes I can smile!”

He loves the snow.

Chance Black and White

Chance is eight years old.  On December 26..he will have been with us eight years.  He is a wonderful companion and buddy.  In his old age..he is more insistent that he be fed exactly at 6PM and the mail must be picked up every morning at 10AM..and he doesn’t understand Sunday and why the mail isn’t there.  He has a schedule..and we are on Border Collie time:)

Sunday Stills: Canine Companions

The Sunday Stills Challenge this week is Canine Companions.

Chance March 19 2011

This is our Border Collie “Chance”  he is 6 1/2 years old.  We got him when he was an eight week old pup. We just went to “look”..and one little pup just walked right up to my husband and sat by his feet. My husband picked him up..and never put him down.   My husband always wanted a Border Collie..they are best friends. We hardly ever leave Chance alone, he goes with us everywhere.  He is very spoiled. He is very friendly and he loves people..especially children.

Chance playing ball March 19 Chance loves to play ball.  Border Collies must have jobs..Chance’s job is to play ball many times a day and to keep squirrels and chipmunks out of the bird feeders.

IMG_1846 I took these photos of Chance on Saturday March 19, 2011 during one of many daily ball playing activities.   He is very photogenic and I have many more photographs of him than either of my children.  Yes, we still have snow.  Some areas of the yard are muddy..but we still have plenty of places to play ball without getting muddy.

Some places in the yard are melting..Chance loves the ice cold water.

My husband and I have always had dogs, we both grew up with dogs.  Before we got Chance we were dog-less for three years.  We took the death of our last Sheltie “Captain” very hard and neither of us knew if we wanted to go through that again. ..that has been the only time in our lives that we have not had a dog.  Chance has been a wonderful addition to our lives:)

Sunday Stills: Spring Preview

Sunday Stills: A Meal

I am not much of a cook.  However Chance usually eats well…in fact he eats pretty darn good. He eats his main meal the same time we do at suppertime..his kibble is usually enhanced with Science Diet canned food and  some kind of vegetable..peas, carrots and spaghetti squash are some of his favorite vegetables.  This is a sample plate of his favorite dog foods/treats. IMG_9014

He gets a special custom mix of Science Diet and Purina Pro Plan which is Lamb based.  Custom meaning we buy a bag of each and mix them half and half!  He gets a Milk Bone Dog Biscuit every morning.

IMG_9018

After he eats his supper..and he will not touch his food until we both say “Amen”..anyway after supper IF he cleans his dish..then he gets some bacon looking formed thing that makes him drool.  The little bone things are extra treats that were in his drawer.  Yes he has a drawer in the kitchen..it holds his treats and his grooming supplies..and he has been known to lead small children and some of his favorite adults to the drawer.

IMG_9020

Most dogs we have had in the past have eaten their food with no problem.  Chance must be coaxed to eat.  He has a dish of his kibble available night and day..and the only time it gets touched is when other dogs come to visit.  Sometimes he refuses to eat until you throw his ball, after it has been thrown a few times he drops it next to the dish and finishes his supper.

No, he did not eat everything on this plate..he was only allowed the bacon thingy, the milk bone and one of the little bone things ..and he turned his nose up at his real food.

Check out more Sunday Stills meals here..perhaps you will find some real cooks:)

Sunday Stills: Pets

This is a photo of our Border Collie Chance, I took this photo back in November.  Chance is five years old!  The day after Christmas will mark five years since he came to live with  us.  He is ball driven and will herd the ball endlessly if only someone will throw it for him.  He loves all children, he is a very spoiled dog.  He goes everywhere with us, the only time we leave him at home is when it is too cold in the winter or too hot in the summer to be in the vehicle.  He is very intelligent and understands many words. We have been to obedience classes..he can heal off lead..and will do a ten minute stay..I should work with him more..anything is possible with this dog..It is a real pleasure for us to be a part of his family!  Check out more pets over at Sunday Stills:)

Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot: Black and Blue

Carly said show me something black or blue, or black and blue! Chance should require Union Scale by now, but he is happy with some praise and a few extras treats..he loves posing! :)

Question of the week. What is your favorite color and why? How does color affect your choices when it comes to photography?

My favorite color is red, because it is cheerful and bright! Given the choice I would photograph something red, before something pink. I tend to photograph only a few colors at a time..I like simple colors, and simple photography..it is in my comfort zone. I need to work on my colorfulness:)

Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot: Playing in the Water

Carly assigned playing in the water, something that Chance enjoys! It was a lovely evening, on June 2oth when went down to the lake. The Loons were calling, and a Great Blue Heron was fishing. Chance splashed along the shoreline, and ventured out and tried to bite a lily pad. It moved in the water, so he backed off, seeking the safety of the shore. The water is still cold...I noticed this when Chance shook droplets of water all over me. The evening air was heavy with the smell of dead fish, a smell very familiar to me. I used to patrol this very shoreline, every morning in the summer for dead floating fish that would eventually be washed ashore for my dogs to roll in...:)

Sunday Stills: Black and White with a Twist

This weeks Sunday Stills Challenge was to photograph two previous subjects, but this time in black and white. I chose Architecture and Pets. I converted my color photos to black and white in my photo editing program. I don't work very much with black and white..so it was a good challenge for me. This is my same old grain bin, this time shot from a different angle, in different weather! The last time I photographed this grain bin for a challenge it had ice dripping from the roof on the other side. The vegetation is Lonicera x brownii or Honeysuckle Trumpet Vine leftovers from last summer. I might have to prune it back a bit this year.

This is Chance, he always looks good in black and white..cause that is his natural color! Happy Mothers Day to all the Mom's out there..not a Mom..have a great girlie day then! :)

Sunday Stills : Go High or Go Low

Well the challenge of going high or going low, made me think for a bit. I finally decided on low and got my trusty friend Chance to help me out. The biggest part of this challenge was to capture him while he wasn't drooling. Since I bribed him with treats..drool was definitely our biggest problem. I am anxious to see how everyone else interpreted this challenge. Check them out at Sunday Stills:)

Sunday Stills : Potluck

This week I wanted to work on some action shots. Chance is a willing subject, I wish he were a slower subject sometimes it is like trying to photograph a fly.. that is madly buzzing around.

In this one he is smiling and two feet are off of the ground!

This was the best action shot of the bunch I took, it is not perfect, but shows some action!

Check our more of the Potluck photographs at Sunday Stills:)
